  1. It is important for professionals to be able to function and communicate effectively as a member of a team of individuals from diverse backgrounds. What are some of the challenges involved in establishing and maintaining effective communication on this type of cross-cultural team?

In my team we are all from different countries, one of the challenges has been the differences in the time zone, but we have been able to coincide in the meetings we have had. Also, knowing how to say things and in my case, even being careful with the emoji I use on WhatsApp. Because in my country Colombia, perhaps an emoji or expression that we use here to joke, means something disrespectful in the country of one of my colleagues. It is important to be neutral with the verbal and written language that we use.

I feel that as we interact through chat and video calls, we get to know each other more and gain a little more confidence with the teammates.

In my personal case, it has been a challenge for me to speak in public because I am honestly afraid of being wrong when speaking English, but it is something I am working on and I feel that little by little I can flow more in the conversation.

Being a team, and as it is a project that we are developing virtually, it is important to establish roles. Among which the following stand out: Writer, Client representative, leader, researcher, producer, organizer. I believe that delegating functions is key to developing a good project.

In my particular case, I am currently working and studying, so my time is limited. However, I am always aware of the responsibilities with the team and the project that we are carrying out. I think it’s all about knowing how to organize time and assigning tasks.

I would like to highlight that we are all different and we have different points of view, it is essential to respect each other’s opinion in order to function as a team and do a good job. In the case of my team, fortunately we have not had any problems since we are very open to listening to the point of view of the other colleagues.

2. What new perspectives are you learning about global business?

Today we speak of an interdependent world economy, this means that there are no barriers that make it impossible to commercialize goods and services outside of the country. It is very common for you to find goods that are made up of a combination of pieces from different sources (different countries), or even more common to find that the products that are sold the most in a country are not precisely produced there, but rather that you care.

International business consists of all existing commercial transactions between two or more countries. The objective of private businesses is to make a profit. Government businesses may or may not be motivated by profit.

Why is it important to study global business?

– Most companies are international or compete with international companies

– The modes of operations may differ from those used in the country itself.

– The best way to conduct business may differ from country to country.

– Understanding them will help you make better career decisions

– Understanding them will help you decide which government policies to support.

The globalization:

– Has been increasing

– It has economic and non-economic dimensions.

– It is stimulated by various factors.

Globalization refers to the set of interdependent relationships that expand between people from different parts of a world that happens to be divided into countries. The term can also refer to the integration of world economies through the elimination of barriers imposed on the movement of goods, services, capital, technology and people.

Furthermore, globalization refers to the shift towards a more integrated and interdependent world economy.
