At the end of our last open enrollment program in 2021 we created, developed and launched a specific digital International Experience Badge issued to students that completed the Positive Impact Internship.
Digital badges are an online representation of a skill or knowledge an individual has earned in a specific program. These digital representations contain detailed information including who received it, who issued it, the achievements, and the criteria for issuing it.
Campus b digital badges are issued through Brasil Open Badge digital platform, based on the international Open Badge Specification protocol and Blockchain technology, which guarantees veracity and authenticity for the issuance of certified digital medals.
Through the iPBL (international project-based learning) methodology applied in the Positive Impact Internship, participants were able to work on real projects with university students from different cultural backgrounds. A badge was created for each project and issued in order to assure our five learning outcomes proposed by this multicultural experience:
Badge earners developed their skills to communicate empathically, regardless of their counterpart’s nationality, origin, beliefs, and opinions. For Campus B iPBL approach, intercultural communication skill is acquired when the participant understands that the world is an entanglement of different people and communication is the key to the exchange of ideas, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
Badge earners demonstrated that the path to create solutions is not arbitrary. Instead, in our iPBL approach, participants are encouraged to raise vital questions, gather relevant information, grasp solutions, test and communicate results effectively. Thus, a critical thinker is open-minded to gather feedback.
In Campus B’s iPBL approach, adaptability implies getting out of the comfort zone, and rather than being really good at some particular thing, be really good at learning new things. Adaptability is developed by being open-minded, exposed to new cultures, knowledge, tastes and sounds, and mainly by being open to knowing more about the other.
Badge earners expanded personal and professional life through experiential activities, interactions with local students, challenges, case competitions and challenges. According to Abraham Maslow, personal development is the ambition to become a better version of oneself, focusing on long-standing aspirations, to become everything one is capable of being.
Badge earners were part of a team with at least 2 different nationalities. Global awareness is a capacity involving the curiosity and empathy for social, environmental, cultural, political and economical issues, and the attitude to skillfully navigate the challenges and opportunities in a way to promote common good.
Besides the International Experience badge that can be shared on Social Media and email signatures, students can also issue their official certificate online whenever needed. An individual QRCode is also available in each badge and certificate making it easier to verify authenticity.
